March Update

Hello Everyone - we are hoping you are enjoying 2012 and staying creative.
We have decided to do away with the newsletter and inform you on any ArtsCape news via this website. We hope this can make it easier to read and more accessible to everyone. The following is our update for March:

The AGM was held on 17th February and your committee was returned with the addition of Josephine Lawrence as Treasurer.  Jo is an accomplished artist and comes with a lot of experience of community arts centre’s in Queensland and we welcome her fresh ideas to ArtsCape.  In her President’s report Alwyn listed many of the achievements over 2011, including all the redecoration work, increase in membership, enthusiasm of user groups such as Stitch and Bitch and Word Players, Leadlighting and Life Drawing classes, projects such as Arty Crafty Tulips, the hugely popular Peter Sargison exhibition and the 4 TRA Touring exhibitions.  She thanked the committee and all members for their contributions and believes that in 2012 “we can look forward to continuing growth and even to more change”!

At the following Committee meeting on 7th March we started putting plans in place for 2012:
  • Sunday 1st April at 2.30pm – Orientation for Volunteers.
This is open to all members or people wishing to be members and will briefly outline the type of volunteer activities available at ArtsCape.  It will be short and informal and enjoyed with a cup of tea or coffee and maybe something sweet!
  • 18th May at 6 pm TRA Exhibition Opening Night
Birds & Drawing of Raffle for 3 paintings by local artist Brett Colcorde.  Raffle tickets are available at Markets and the Orientation, or through President Alwyn.
  • Saturday 19th May from 12 – 2.30pm Vocal Nosh
This is a fun workshop with Teresa Beck-Swindale and Trudy Dudding and is for anyone who enjoys singing or thinks they can’t sing but would love to have a go!  It covers a diverse mix of simple songs, harmonies, rhythms and learning at least one more challenging song in several parts.   The vocal work is divided into 2 parts with a break for a light lunch and an opportunity to socialise, meet new people and share information.  If enough of us want to continue, Teresa can provide assistance in starting a group.  The cost will be $15. (including lunch) with a maximum number of 20 so get in early!    Book with Janet on janetsell@netspace.net.au
  • 30th June Next ArtsCape Talk – speaker TBA
Other plans include a photography exhibition in October, TRA Touring Exhibition in November.

Hope you can find something there that you would love to attend and we look forward to seeing you.

Michelle has entered and got down to the top 20 in the  Garnier Ambassador competition. It is aimed at suppoting grass roots projects. The project we want to support is (of course)  Wynyards Artscape, our local community arts centre. Now we must get to the final 10 to win. Good odds!

More than ever we are in need to prove ourselfs to the community and local council. We need to gain support to ensure the projects becomes sustaining and long term. We currently have been running for 7 plus years and we are growing and getting better at our arts practices every year. This is a grass roots project, it runs on community power alone with no funding. This is why support from a company such as this will be vital for our future sustainment.

Please click on this link to vote for us and then please share, share, share(!!!) with everybody you know and even those you don't.

We would be forever grateful. This art center is also the home to our Made with Love Market Bazaar (on tomorrow by the way) and has be come a very important home to the arts in our regional community. We would love to for everyone to get on board and throw their weight behind this project...even if its is just by clicking and linking. I feel all our hard work will be worth it then.

Voting is only open for a month guys , so please do not hesitate.
