Youth Week Photography Workshop And Exhibition

Last week something amazing happened at ArtsCape. Naomi Fenton and Michelle Walker hosted the very first iPhoneography workshop for Seedsmiths. It was a fantastic day.
With some funding from the local council and the National Youth Week people we were fortunate to be able to offer it to the local youth for FREE.
The kids were amazing. They were like sponges and took everything in.  We saw minds and perspectives change in a small amount of time. We saw concentration and enthusiasm in creating better works of art. You can look at some of their works on instagram under the hash tags #itstartswithus #YW2015 #getyourgridon. The workshop was also blogged about on the Seedsmiths Website.

On this Friday night at 6pm ArtsCape will be hosting a gallery opening of photos from the youth between the ages of 12-18. We would love it if you could attend.

Kathleen Bentley Exhibition - Opening

Kathleen Bentley’s Exhibition – Tasmania Island of Dreams

Some excerpts from Alwyn Friedersdorff’s Official Opening of the Exhibition:

As a community group, ArtsCape has a huge commitment to the arts, in particular to our local artists, but we are also happy to make friends and influence people from all over our wonderful North west coast!

For that reason, we warmly welcome Kathleen Bentley with her appealing predominantly pastel works. As a pastel artist, Kathleen has studied under June Wilson, who on Friday evening was announced the winner of the Central Coast Council Award at the annual ArtEx and she has also studied with our friend and water colour artist, Evelyn Antonysen.

Kathleen has commented in her Artist Statement that changing light both fascinates and challenges her. You can be stunned by the evidence of this in her work.........

Through Kathleen’s other delight, her animal series, she has captured personality and character through their eyes. I am no cat lover but “Cindy” is instantly mystical, dominant and definitely here to stay!.....

So, congratulations on your first solo art exhibition!
It is a big deal and an important milestone as another step along the path of establishing your career and reputation as an artist............

Please try and pop in to ArsCape in our viewing times to have a look at this lovely exhibition.

A fantastic opening was had celebrating the works of these lovely local artists. The art center was busting at the seams with a crowd and an energy that was outstanding. It was lovely to see this beautiful collection of local artists displaying their beautiful works and being supported by so many of the locals.

A big thankyou to the artists and the hard work that was put into the opening, the art work that is exhibited and the people that turned up and showed their support for local talent.

Our Relaunch

In May 2011 we Re-launched our local community art centre "Artscape". The centre is now six years old and needed a re-vamp and a little bit of a make over.  With so many new and invigorating peole joining us on the committee we felt that there was a need to show off our re-energized  group. The centre it self had also been re-invigorated with a coat of paint and many hours of maintenance on the building from generous and hard working people.

On the day of the launch we had a harpist playing beautiful music, talks from Alwyn our president and the local Light House tours manager and fellow artist David Roberts-Thompson.
We had a great turn out and enjoyed tea with cake or wine with cheese. At 2pm on a Sunday afternoon the drinks choice could go either way.
We had works on our newly painted walls from the groups that have started to use the space in the centre: Word Players, Stitch n Bitch/Made with Love, Smart Arts: Quilters, and lead lighting workshops.
The turn out was great and the hum from the building grew louder.
